If
there is a negative thought pattern that is repeating itself, how do you deal
with it and how do you break it?
The
first thing is to bring awareness. In other words, observe the negative
thought, the negative behaviour, become more aware of it. Very often people are
in the sleeping mode. They are doing so many things without awareness. Be more
aware of what you are doing, what you are thinking. Subsequently, feel deeply
the harm that negative thought is causing to you. It is blocking up your heart.
It is impeding your spiritual growth. It is preventing you from achieving peace
of mind, calm and balance. So, realise the harm. That will then create in you a
deep aspiration to change it. That will trigger off the change. Now, how do you
change it? Replace the negative thought by something positive. If you simply
start practicing “I will not think this, I will not think this”, such practice
will not work. Instead of that replace it (negative thought). Every time this
thought comes, let me divert my mind to God. Slowly slowly love for God. Devotion
to God will start replacing the negativity and the consequence is your mind
will start getting purified. The more your mind gets purified, the less you
will experience the negativity.
